Bachelor of ScienceApplied Studies

A Partnership BetweenThe College of Business & Public Policy & Coastline Community College

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Studies in the College of Business and Public Policy is a specially designed degree program that meets the needs of community college students who have earned associate degrees in technical fields for which there is no apparent bachelors degree program into which they may readily transfer and pursue upper division coursework. This program emphasizes the practical applications of academic subjects in real world situations. It enables students with technical or vocational associate degrees to obtain bachelors degrees with advanced coursework related to the associate degrees and prepares them for leadership roles in the occupations of their associate degrees.

PreparationThe primary criterion for admission to the Applied Studies major program is possession of an Associate degree(or a minimum 56 semester units) from an accredited community college, or the equivalent, which must include English Composition, Speech, Critical Thinking, and Math.

Benefits* Provides majors with the foundation necessary to facilitate occupational achievement and leadership by bridging technical skills, knowledge and background with management, administration, and communication skills

* Assists majors in achieving leadership in their respective fields by providing focused studies in appropriate disciplines for occupational leadership and by providing breadth of knowledge through social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities

* Enables majors to obtain key transferable skills for the workplace in areas of critical reasoning, problem solving, and clear communication

* Provides a degree completion program that combines quality and efficiency by emphasizing flexible delivery, convenient scheduling and continuous faculty advising

* Provides a quality degree in an affordable manner

Special Features* Enables students to receive upper division instruction leading to a baccalaureate degree from California State University without leaving the community college setting. CSU faculty will travel to the convenient Coastline Garden Grove Center to conduct courses scheduled for working adults

* Accepts the transfer of up to 18 units of technical coursework not typically transferable in other bachelors programs

Qualifications to ApplyApplicants will qualify for admission to CSU Dominguez Hills’ Applied Studies program if they have completed 56 transferable semester college units, have a grade point average of “C” (2.0) or better, and have completed the four (4) general education basic skills courses with grades of “C” or better: freshman composition, college math, critical reasoning/logic, and speech. Maximum number of units accepted from a community college is 70 semester units.
